Beginnings
For the amount of times that I went hiking and camping as a kid, I was never really super into the outdoors. Sure playing outside was fun and the hikes were always interesting, but I was never the kind of person to go out and play in the mud just for shits and giggles. Well, I guess once I made a mud pie. Anyways, as I've grown I have learned to appreciate nature and I figured it was about time that I started my own garden.
So this was probably the best decision I've made in the last three months. Winter is always kind of a difficult time for me, but this one has been especially hard. Between the lack of vitamin D in the Pacific North West and my own naturally depressive personality, I have sunk pretty low into the blue this time around. But when I sat down yesterday to begin weeding it felt like a weight had shifted. The depression was still there, but in that moment it was utterly manageable.
And how could it not be with this little guy and all his buds?! There were so many worms and other bugs that I kept getting distracted watching them, but that was pretty entertaining. There were even more worms today when I cleared my second plot because it was raining. That's one of the nice things about living in Washington; rain is no excuse to not do things since it's pretty much always raining.
Anyways, I now have two 6 by 3 foot plots all cleared of weeds and mixed with compost. Next Friday I'll let you all in on what I'm planting, the progress I've made, and a simple fun little project in garden organization. And if you find yourself feeling down at all this week, maybe try picking up some flowers on your way home. <3
